Fortnite player arrested after the FBI was reportedly threatened by a Fortnite player who used Fortnite voice chat.
Fortnite news account HYPEX highlighted the case and shared details from an FBI affidavit filed in an Alabama federal court. The affidavit states that the player’s comments were reported through Fortnite’s voice chat system, and Epic Games provided recordings and other information to federal investigators.
The player allegedly made several disturbing statements during conversations while playing Fortnite. This included a threat aimed directly at FBI agents.
“Let’s see if the FBI is going to show up at my door because I’ll shoot them motherfuckers too.”
According to the affidavit, the player allegedly said that he wanted to “literally murder somebody.” He also claimed he thought about it “every day.”
Epic Games Reportedly Sent Voice Chat Recordings to the FBI
The incident reportedly began after the player’s comments were flagged through Fortnite’s reporting system.
According to the court documents, Epic Games made an emergency disclosure to the FBI after identifying the account involved. Investigators were then able to obtain recordings and other information connected to the Fortnite account.
The case highlights how seriously violent threats made through online games can be treated, even when they happen during a gaming session.
Players often hear trash talk and heated arguments in Fortnite matches. However, comments that appear to contain genuine threats of violence can lead to consequences beyond a warning or account penalty.
Fortnite Voice Chat Can Have Real-World Consequences
Fortnite has millions of players using voice chat every day, meaning conversations can sometimes become heated. However, this case is a reminder that what someone says over a gaming platform can potentially attract the attention of law enforcement.
The allegations in this case are particularly serious because the comments reportedly went beyond ordinary gaming trash talk and included threats toward law enforcement officers.
The player is accused of making the statements, and the allegations contained in court documents have not been proven in court. A criminal defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
For Fortnite players, the situation is another reminder that voice chat should not be treated as a place where anything can be said without consequences.
